Questions raised over new parking arrangements at Donyngs Leisure Centre
New parking measures at Donyngs Leisure Centre in Redhill have prompted questions from at least one local resident, who has contacted Surrey Extra about the changes.
The resident says they have submitted a Freedom of Information request and are in discussions with the council about what has changed at the site.
A ticket machine that was visible at the car park earlier in the day was later seen covered up.
A note on this story. The account above comes from a resident who contacted Surrey Extra. We have not independently verified it, and the council has not commented publicly on the arrangements. We are publishing it because several people who use the centre have raised the same question, and we would like to hear from more of them.
What we know
- New parking measures have been introduced at the Donyngs Leisure Centre car park.
- A resident has contacted Surrey Extra to raise concerns about them.
- That resident says they have submitted a Freedom of Information request.
- They say they are in discussions with the council about the changes.
- A ticket machine at the site, visible earlier in the day, was later covered up.
What we do not know
- Whether a charge now applies to leisure centre users, and how much it would be.
- Whether any free period or permit arrangement applies to people using the centre.
- Why the ticket machine was covered up, and whether the measures are fully in force.
- What the council’s response to the Freedom of Information request will be.
Until those points are confirmed, anyone parking at the centre should read the signs at the car park carefully before leaving their vehicle.
Part of a wider parking picture in Redhill
The questions at Donyngs come during a period of change for parking across the town.
A new Restricted Parking Zone came into force in Redhill town centre earlier this summer, with Penalty Charge Notices already being issued to drivers who wait in the pedestrian area. Separately, shoppers are adjusting to a new parking system at Sainsbury’s in Redhill, where stays over an hour now have to be registered at a pay station.
Taken together, they add up to a noticeable shift in how parking works in and around the town centre.
Do you use Donyngs? Tell us what you have seen
Surrey Extra is approaching this as a community issue, and we would like to hear from people who use the leisure centre.
If you have been affected by the new arrangements, or have photographs of the signage and the machine, you can send them to Surrey Extra. We will update this article as more is confirmed. More local news from Surrey is on our news page.
