Wingers opens its first Surrey restaurant in Epsom

Wingers has opened its doors in Epsom, bringing the fast-growing fried chicken franchise to Surrey for the first time.

Staff in the chain’s red caps and T-shirts lined up under a red and white balloon arch outside the Pelman Way unit on Monday 14 September for the ribbon cutting, before the restaurant began serving.

The windows had carried “Epsom opening soon” vinyls for weeks, alongside a call for kitchen staff and servers.

Where it is and when it is open

The restaurant is at Unit 5, Covell House, Pelman Way, Epsom, KT19 8HJ. Wingers lists opening times on the branch page of 11am to 11pm, seven days a week.

It is a short drive from Ewell, Ashtead, Leatherhead and Banstead, and within reach of the rest of the borough.

A family franchise from Lichfield

Wingers describes itself as “top-notch fried chicken”, and the company’s own account of itself is a family one: Amran Sunner, his brother Dylan and their father Bill worked up a buttermilk fried chicken recipe, opened a first restaurant in Lichfield, and turned it into a franchise that has since spread across the country.

Epsom is the 29th location on the company’s list. The other 28 sit mostly in the Midlands and the north — Lichfield, Wolverhampton, Derby, Lincoln, Worksop, Rotherham — with outliers in Swansea, Dunfermline, Andover and Sittingbourne. None of them is in Surrey.

What is on the menu

The menu is built around buttermilk-marinated chicken in two forms: wings on the bone, in fours, sixes and eights, and boneless tenders, both served with a choice of sauce.

• Burgers and wraps — the Classic Wingers Burger and the Hot Buffalo Double on brioche, and a tortilla wrap.
• Bowls — a salad bowl and a Feast Bowl of tenders, slaw, salad and fries.
• Loaded fries — including jerk fries topped with tenders, crispy onions and chillies.
• Meat-free — a meat-free buttermilk fillet burger with vegan mayo.
• Sides and sweet — kids’ meals, cookies, milkshakes and a range of dips.
