More flags go up on Redhill lampposts as residents split over the display

More Union Jack and St George’s flags have been going up on lampposts around Redhill town centre, and the response from residents has been anything but unanimous.
Photographs and video sent to Surrey Extra show flags being fixed to lampposts near Redhill railway station, close to McDonald’s, and outside the Sun pub opposite Sainsbury’s.
Another has since been spotted in the town centre, close to the roundabout opposite the railway station and McDonald’s.
A divided response
The first video has been watched more than 63,000 times and drew over 300 comments in a matter of days — one of the biggest responses to anything Redhill Extra has posted this year.
Some residents have welcomed the flags as a straightforward display of national pride. Others have said they feel uncomfortable seeing more of them appear around the town, or have questioned whether Redhill needs any more than it already has.
It is not clear who is putting the flags up.
