Iceland in Redhill to close temporarily for refurbishment

By Surrey Extra Redhill

Shoppers in Redhill have less than two weeks to plan ahead: the town’s Iceland store is closing temporarily for a refurbishment, and it will be shut for a full week.

A notice now displayed in the shop window confirms that the store closes at 4pm on Thursday 13 August and reopens at 8am on Thursday 20 August. The same notice tells customers that the nearest Iceland store during the closure will be in Horley.

The dates come from the store’s own signage, photographed by Surrey Extra this week.

What the notice says

The sign in the window sets out the closure in full:

  • Closes: 4pm, Thursday 13 August
  • Reopens: 8am, Thursday 20 August
  • Nearest store during the closure: Horley

That is a closure of six full days, with the store trading as normal up to the Thursday afternoon and reopening the following Thursday morning.

Where to shop while the store is closed

Iceland’s own notice points customers to its Horley store for the week of the closure.

For anyone who would rather stay in Redhill, the town centre’s other food shops are unaffected, including the fruit and veg shop that opened in The Belfry shopping centre. Supermarkets elsewhere in the town centre are also trading as usual.

If you use the Iceland delivery service, it is worth checking the app or website before ordering during that week.

Update: the store reopened on 20 August

Iceland Redhill closed as planned at 4pm on Thursday 13 August and reopened at 8am on Thursday 20 August, with staff cutting a ribbon at the entrance. New signage went up while the shutters were down, and the inside has been refitted.

What we did not know at the time

The notice describes the closure as a refurbishment but does not say what the work involves, and Iceland has not published any further detail about the Redhill store.

It is also not clear from the notice whether store staff will work elsewhere during the closure. Surrey Extra will update this article if the company confirms more.
